Dominoes at the Crossroads by: Kaie Kellough: This was a collection of short stories in which the main character, Kaie Kellough, navigates race, history, feeling out of place and coming of age. Each story was told through a different lens to give the story more perspective. As a whole this collection was really well written and well told. Some stories were better than others; some stories had more flow to them, while others the reader felt more of a disconnect. It was interesting to read through the multiple perspectives as well as the multiple time lines. Some stories took place in the distant past, while others were in the present, some in the far future. That could be why the reader felt some stories lacked connection because there was a lot of jumping timelines. From one story to the next it was slightly jarring to go from one place and time to the next. This also read like a collection of essays on the author’s thoughts on different topics at times, which gave it more of an academic feel to it. The reader did really enjoy the main character’s self-discovery journey. In the end, this was a slow-paced collection of engaging, thought provoking stories.
That sounds really interesting – I love the idea of each story being told in a different lense! What were some examples of the different lenses?

Some took place in the very far future, while others were in the very distant past. The main character was always trying to find his place but had to adapt to where he was.
