Hello friends, happy Wednesday! I hope you’re all having a great week so far. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Tamora Pierce’s first novel in the Song of the Lioness series, Alanna: The First Adventure.

Alanna: The First Adventure by: Tamora Pierce: Alanna wants nothing more than to learn to use a sword and be a part of the knighthood, but because she’s a girl, her destiny is to study magic, something her twin brother Thom wishes he could learn. In the heat of the moment, they decide to switch places and Alanna becomes Alan so she can begin her training as a knight, only it’s a lot more grueling than she thought it’d be. There was a lot happening for such a short novel, but it was a good first novel that really introduced the reader to the world and the characters. The plot was fun and full of action; the reader had no idea where the story was going to go; there were so many twists and turns that had them gasping, laughing and just overall entertained. This had a good pace, although at times it felt really fast-paced as the course of this novel spanned three years and it felt like Alanna grew up in the blink of an eye. The characters were good, we really got to know Alanna the main character. The reader wished we got more of her twin brother Thom, after they part ways we don’t hear from him until the very end and it would be nice to see what he’s up to. The people that Alanna met along the way in her journey to be a page were fun and gave the story the elements of surprise it needed. The reader is really interested to see where the next novel is going to go. As much as this one had a nice, clean ending, we know that Alanna’s story is far from over, that this is just beginning.
