Review: Wink Poppy Midnight

Hi guys! Happy Wednesday! Today I’m going to be reviewing April Genevieve Tucholke’s novel Wink Poppy Midnight.

Wink Poppy Midnight

Wink Poppy Midnight by: April Genevieve Tucholke: One summer three teens set out to play a prank, only who is the prank really on? Wink and Poppy are two girls who have left poor Midnight caught in the middle of all their drama and when something bad happens, only one person knows the truth, while other lies about the truth. This novel was a breath of fresh air in the way that it was written; Tucholke writes in wisps of whimsy, not quite poetic but definitely fantastical and full of magic. The reader could feel it through the plot and through her characters. The plot was magical mixed with the emotions of being a teenager and that’s what made this novel intense yet totally unpredictable and a little sporadic. This was a good story about good and bad; villains and heroes, even if it does start off a little shaky, the plot grows with its characters. Tucholke’s characters were these multi-dimensional people who the reader couldn’t figure out, but that really kept them on their toes and made things interesting. Overall, this was different, it was a quick read, but it was a good read.

  1. I think this is the first review I’ve seen for Wink Poppy Midnight so I’m glad you enjoyed it Meghan. I actually have this book on my TBR list, it sounds like the kind of book I’d love based on what you’ve said in your review and the fact that it sounds kind of magical realism-ish. Hopefully I’ll be able to get around to it sooner rather than later! 🙂
