Review: Whatever Happened to Interracial Love?

Hello friends, happy Wednesday – I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Kathleen Collins’ short story collection, Whatever Happened to Interracial Love?

Whatever Happened to Interracial Love?

What Ever Happened to Interracial Love? by: Kathleen Collins: A collection of short stories that focuses a lens on interracial America by exploring issues that touch upon race, gender, sexuality and family and showing them in the ordinary moments in life. This collection was powerful, full of passion and heart. Each story felt so open, real and raw that the reader couldn’t help but be drawn into Collins’ sweet prose. The stories all felt really short, but they also gave the reader just what they needed to fall in love with the writing and the characters, even if we only see the characters for a short time. Collins explores how flawed humans are and showcases different relationships; the reader may not relate to all the stories, but there is bound to be at least one that feels like a story was written for them. The different voices in which Collins was able to write in amazed the reader and made them love it even more. The pacing was on the slow side, but that helped to absorb Collins’ words and their impact which gave the reader an appreciation for the stories. From start to finish, this collection comes together to bring out an array of emotions and an appreciation for literary fiction.
