Movie Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1&2

Hello everyone! Happy Friday, and Happy Infinity War Day! In light of that movie coming out I bring you another set of reviews from the Avengers franchise: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1&2.

I think by the end of May, I’ll be up-to-date! 😝

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy: Peter Quill finds himself with a league of misfits when he steals an orb from a powerful villain. When Peter finds out the power that the orb has, he and his new misfit friends, a raccoon with a gun, a tree-man named Groot, Gamora a pretty green lady, and Drax who has a lot of anger, team up to help save the universe. The film is filled with witty, or what’s supposed to be witty dialogue; some it falls flat and it’s a little weird when characters reference other pop cultural things, such as Footloose. Music was a big player in this film as well, every few scenes a popular song would play to lighten, the already lightened mood. The film was already comedic; it didn’t really need any comic relief. The characters and the acting was well done, the amount of character development that was thrown into this two-hour film made it worth watching, aside from all the action and saving the world. The characters learned to become friends and that was nice to see. Overall, it was a pretty good film in all regards, just the dialogue could have been better.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2: Hired by a group of powerful aliens called the Sovereign, the Guardians are sent on a mission to guard their precious batteries. Well that goes very wrong when one of their own steal the batteries. Now the Sovereign are dead set on vengeance and send all of their allies after them. This film didn’t live up to the previous Galaxy movie. The plot just seems to jump around a whole lot. The film unpacks a bunch of information only to jump to another scene. The way the viewer would learn something, then the film would jump to another scene was really jarring. The writing was alright. The film was meant to be funny in a sarcastic kind of way, but that just made the characters come off as arrogant and annoying. What was done well was how cinematically pleasing this film was; it was so colourful and full of life. The music was also very well placed. Not only did it add a good side of comedy, but every battle scene had a song and the choice was really well chosen. This film had a lot of family dynamics and it was really good to see backstories to pretty much every character. The film not only showed the new dynamics, but it really showed how close the guardians are. Yes, this film had a lot of action, but sometimes it just went on for too long. Overall, it had it’s good moments, but it’s not a movie really worth re-watching.

  1. Oh the Guardians of the Galaxy films are two of my favourite Marvel films so far and I actually re-watch them a fair bit just because they’re something I can put on in the background and know where the story is you know? It’s a shame you thought some of the dialogue and comedy fell flat, but I’m glad you enjoyed them overall.
    Great reviews Meghan. 🙂 ❤
