Hi friends, happy Monday – I hope you’re all doing well! Today I’m posting my review of Leigh Bardugo’s short story collection, The Language of Thorns.

The Language of Thorns by: Leigh Bardugo: This was a collection of six short stories that fit into Bardugo’s Grishaverse. This reader has been out of that verse for so long that they didn’t really get the references or understand how they fit into the larger picture of the world, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t enjoy this. Even as a standalone, the stories were really good. The inspiration from classic tales was evident and really let the reader sink into them without backstory. Bardugo’s writing strongly stood out in this because it was so descriptive that it made the stories come alive that much more. Some stories were better than others, and some felt like they didn’t need to be as long as they were, but in the end they all had a good moral behind them. This also had illustrations on every page that really enhanced the reader’s reading experience. It was so beautiful to look at and really brought the stories and characters to life. This collection is worth the read whether you’ve read any of the Grishaverse or not; this was a fun, quick read that transported the reader to lands far away for a little while, highly recommend.
