Hello! Welcome to Throwback Thursday! Today I’m going to be re-reviewing Ellen Hopkins’s novels Impulse and the sequel Perfect.

Impulse by: Ellen Hopkins: Three lives, all different, yet all the same. These three young people find themselves at the same place for different reasons, but are their reasons different at all? The novel was moving, with unpredictable turns of events. Like every Ellen Hopkins novel, the characters are going through something and they need each other to get through it. It shows the power of love in peoples lives and how extreme it can be, but also how beautiful it can be. Overall the novel was something the reader could read in a sitting, though taking time to read and getting to know the characters was beneficial to the story.

Perfect by: Ellen Hopkins: Body image, fitting in, acceptance, there is no such thing as perfection. Four teens struggle to find the meaning of perfection and try to reach this idea of perfection, but what they realize by the end is that there may not be this great thing. This novel is almost like a continuation of another book she’s written, Impulse. We learn the other side of a character’s family and friends. It’s an exceptional novel on ideas teens have of this word perfection. This novel was written like all her others in poem formation which makes it easy to read because everything just flows together. Overall it is a really great novel with a really good message.
