Review: The Girl Who Fell

Hello, and happy Wednesday! 🙂 Today I’m going to be reviewing S.M. Parker’s novel The Girl Who Fell.

Like my Monday review, I just want to put a caution that this novel can be triggering to readers dealing with abusive relationships, toxic relationships, obsessive behaviour.

The Girl Who Fell

The Girl Who Fell by: S.M. Parker: Zephyr has everything planned out for the next phase of her life, but when a new boy walks into the halls of her school, and makes his way into her life, things suddenly start to change. Making her believe that what he wants is what she wants, and slowly her whole life starts to tilt. A novel about toxic relationships, this novel does do that well. Parker’s writing of the relationship, the plot and the characters were all really well done. Her plots were believable and deceiving. It’s understood that she wrote this to show what a bad relationship looks like, but it’s still hard to read and can still be triggering to others reading it. The plot almost drags near the middle as things progress in the wrong direction; it’s only the last 50 pages of the novel or so when things start to truly look up. Her main character was very flushed out, and detailed, as with others in her life, but the protagonist wasn’t at all; the reader almost knows nothing about him, he just shows up one day, this mystery man. That was probably done for the sake of the plot, but it was still jarring. Aside from the heavy topic, this was a gripping novel that did keep its reader on their toes the entire time.
