Hello, today I’m going to be reviewing the film series: The Hunger Games.

So not having a computer at work is a part of the blame why this is a late post. When did life get crazy? Anyways here’s my review.

This week I’ve finally watched Mockingjay (Parts 1&2) so I figured it was time to review all the films. I just want to note that I have read the novels, I just read them a really long time ago- before I started reviewing. That said, I do plan to reread them!

The Hunger Games: It’s the 74^th annual Hunger Games and it’s time for the games to begin. Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute to save her sister Prim. The movie was very well adapted into a film from the novel. The colours that were used were phenomenal, as well as camera movements were really good at capturing the moments and the feelings. It was very shaky to show them moving, and very hard to follow along sometimes, which made the viewers head hurt. The actors in their roles were super; this movie came out to be a great success!

Catching Fire: The sequel to The Hunger Games trilogy. The movie captures, and represents the novel very well, doing the novel justice. Katnis and Peeta are back in District 12, now they have to do a tour of all the Districts since they won the Hunger Games. To their surprise winners have to go back to the games to have the ultimate Hunger Games. The movie left it all as a cliffhanger, leaving the audience to wonder what will come next in the final movies. Overall the acting was incredible and the way it was filmed made the plotlines move smoothly. The one thing that wasn’t the best was that they made it into a really long movie; in the middle the viewer felt it drag, but once they got into the games it was fast moving. It is definitely worth seeing if you’ve seen the first one.

Mockingjay Part 1: The beginning of the end. Katniss is made the Mockingjay, a representation for the people who want to fight against the capital. Waking up in District 13 to find that President Snow and the capital have destroyed her home, District 12. Peeta is being held captive and brainwashed by Snow, and Katniss needs to find a way to save him without getting him or herself killed. It’s only a matter of time before she breaks, and things change. The film was very action packed, and very engaging to the viewer. This film didn’t deal with romance as much, and concentrated all its energy on the action aspect of the story. This worked out very well, as the viewer didn’t feel the film was bogged down and riddled with forced romances, but was filled with truly emotional scenes. Jennifer Lawrence did a phenomenal job acting out her scenes, she was truly gut wrenching and heart breaking to watch. Her energy felt so raw and powerful. The rest of the cast also really helped to bring out her acting and make her shine, but not forgetting all the actors played their roles exceptionally well. Overall, the first half of Mockingjay was very well done.

Mockingjay Part 2: The end is now here. The film picks up, it looks a few days or weeks after where we left off. Katniss is recovering from Peeta’s attack, but she still believes in him. She knows it’s not him; it’s Snow’s brainwashing. Katniss is ready to kill Snow. This time around, they are all on the hunt to kill Snow, and as the film goes on their large group becomes smaller and smaller as they make their journey towards the capital. Romance is added into part two, since it lacked in part one, but it’s not thrown in randomly, it’s thrown in to add to scenes, and make them more emotional for the viewer. The scenes were done well, and were added with a purpose. The ending had a few extra scenes, although they were added to be true to the novel, and it worked it just made the film a little long. Overall, this film ended the series well where all loose ends were tied up, actors played their roles well, and things were shot well.
