Hi guys! Happy Monday! 🙂 Today I’m going to be reviewing Stephanie Oaks’ novel The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly.

The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly by: Stephanie Oakes: Minnow has grown up in a cult that has taken everything from her, including her hands. When their Prophet is murdered and the camp set on fire, things to turn to Minnow for answers. Ending up in juvenile detention that’s when events from her past start to come out. This novel definitely had an interesting plot, even if it took some time to get into. The beginning was really a lot of set up for what was to come in the last half of the novel. The story was fast-paced and completely engrossing to read. The fact that it dealt with a cult was something a little different, as there aren’t many well-known cult stories out there. Oakes’ characters were extreme at times, but at other times calm and timid. She wrote and developed her characters with a lot of range of emotion, which left them room to grow; as she didn’t pigeonhole them, she let them fly. She also writes death in a way that is like poetry and it’s something graceful and elegant. Overall, her writing was graceful, which made for a really good novel, especially for a debut novel.
