Hello! Welcome to Throwback Thursday. This week I’m going back in the time machine to pull out my review of Rachel Caine’s The Morganville Vampires series.

Read between: March 2013 – April 2014

Glass Houses by: Rachel Caine: The first novel in the Morganvile Vampires series. Being skeptical about vampire books since the whole Twilight books came out and became popular this one is different. Claire is very smart for her age, at just 16 she’s already enrolled in a college and taking all the physics and calculus courses known to man. But when she’s bullied and left for dead it’s when she moves to find the Glass House, and learn about vampires. The novel was very detailed in describing things, with a lot of action. Sure it’s a small novel, but it’s packed with a lot of action to suit a 1000 page novel. If you’re into vampires, this just may be a good series to read!

The Dead Girls’ Dance by: Rachel Caine: The second novel in the Morganville Vampires series. This novel starts where the first left off, quite literally. The actions ended, and it was like reading the next chapter when the reader starts to read this novel. This time around Claire has even more on her plate. She’s still trying to figure out if vampires are good or bad, but now her boyfriend, Shane’s dad, has come into the picture, and he hates vampires. The short novel is filled with lots of drama and action to keep the reader reading. It wasn’t as attention grabbing as the first novel, less description of things in this one, with more action. Overall it was worth reading!

Midnight Alley by: Rachel Caine: The third novel in the Morganville Vampires series. This time it’s pretty much the same plot, stay away from the vampires because they rule the town. The biggest vampire in town Amelie now protects Claire, and she starts to do secret things for her, which might get, not just herself, but other people in trouble. The story’s plot is getting a little stale, but as the reader moves towards the fourth novel, it seems the plot might thicken! The details and descriptions are what made this novel better. It’s an iffy novel, if you want to read the series, it’s wise to read this novel as well, if not well the book doesn’t stand-alone very well.

Feast of Fools by: Rachel Caine: The fourth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. A bad vampire has come to town to take over, or to destroy everything the town ever was, but he just happens to be the cure to the disease that the vampires have. Now they must go to war against him. This novel was well written paying a lot of attention to detail. The only thing that could have been better is not ending with a cliffhanger. Nothing sucks more then cliffhanger endings to novels. Now we have to read the next book to find out what will happen.

Lord of Misrul by: Rachel Caine: The fifth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. Now that the town has gone into a war against the two most powerful vampires, Amelie and Bishop, it’s up to the residence at the Glass house to make sure everything turns out okay, but in the end how can you really be sure everything is going to turn out okay? Another fast paced novel that has the reader on their toes at some points just dying to know what is going to happen. While other times Caine goes into a bit too much detail and well bores the reader right out. Overall it was a great next chapter, only it ended too soon!

Carpe Corpus by: Rachel Caine: The sixth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. Claire is finally another year older, but that doesn’t stop her parents from treating her differently, but it does her boyfriend. Everyone in Morganville is sided with Bishop the evil vampire who wants to destroy, or so it seems, until one is sacrificed to save the town. The series seems to be at a stand still, but it is sure there is more to come when vampires and humans start to live as equals together. This novel had a lot happening, and kept the reader engaged the entire time. The author closed all the lose ends off, but there is still one that begs the question what will happen next!

Fade Out by; Rachel Caine: The seventh novel in the Morganville Vampires series. Sometimes the reader just never knows what is going to happen. This time around, Morganville has been hit with spies. Cameras are placed everywhere among the town and it’s up to Clair and her friends to figure out who’s behind it all and try to stop it. Sounds like such a heroic novel, but the it was paced well, and as much as someone plays the hero, the author doesn’t it put out to make them as heroic as it sounds. There are always consequences for actions. Overall, another great detailed novel to the series!

Kiss of Death by: Rachel Caine: The eighth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. In this novel, things get really interesting. We leave Morganville behind and head for Dallas. But before we can arrive in Dallas we arrive in a small town called Blacke, which has it’s own vampires. This is a really fresh novel since it takes place outside of the original setting and we are placed in a new one. It gives the reader a break from having all novels take place in the same spot. Overall, the writing was well done, a lot of details were provided to make the story colourful.

Ghost Town by: Rachel Caine: The ninth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. This time things get a little crazy. The vampires start to forget everything, and think it’s three years before. Then the humans start to get it too. It’s all up to Claire to set things right in the town, but that isn’t easy when no one remembers who you are. The novel itself was well written, though it had moments where it felt like a teenager decided to write the story instead of the author. It made the story hard to read when the plotlines became cheesy and predictable. But near the end Caine gained points because it was a good ending.

Bite Club by: Rachel Caine: The tenth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. After so many novels the reader would think it would get boring to read, but it doesn’t. There are the slow plotlines, but overall it really comes together in a great plotline in a new novel. In this novel the reader gets a new perspective as well. We get in the mind of Claire’s boyfriend Shane. In this novel Shane has signed up, but not on his will to fight the vampires in staged caged matches. This obviously doesn’t go down well, and all of Morganville is concerned. Vampires and humans are all trying to get this to stop. Old characters pop up again, while others die for good, it’s all still very exciting what will happen next.

Last Breath by: Rachel Caine: The eleventh novel in the Morganville Vampires series. In this novel, everything just takes a sudden plot twist. It’s been humans versus the vampires for a long time now, but now something that can defeat vampires has come to town to make everything change, and not for the better. Claire almost gets turned into a vampire, Michael almost dies, and Shane thinks about dying. It’s the novel with the most drama, and the most plot twists since the beginning. You the reader have no idea what is going on, or what will happen and you lose yourself in the writing. The ending is like a cliffhanger that sets us up for the next novel.

Black Dawn by: Rachel Caine: The twelfth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. The draugs are still out there trying to kill off all the vampires and humans to create a new race of draugs. It’s up to Claire and her friends to save Morganville from these things and try to restore the town as best as possible. This novel, like the last couple have different points of view from different characters. This novel had points of view from new characters to keep the story interesting and new. The details the author puts into her novels makes it that much more enjoyable as well. For a twelfth novel it still felt as good as one of the first!

Bitter Blood by: Rachel Caine: The thirteenth novel in the Morganvile Vampires series. This time around the town has some new visitors, and some new ghosts. People we thought were dead maybe aren’t dead and that turns the whole town into a frenzy. But Claire is again caught in the middle to help save the day. The novel is like most novels in how they’re structured, though this one the reader can tell there is more to come in the story in the form of another novel. This series has it’s up and downs but this novel wasn’t dull, it was exciting, and the reader just had to keep reading. There were different points of view in this book, though Claire mostly got all the chapters, and her chapters were 50 plus pages long, it was good to read outside of her perspective! Overall, this novel was great; the next one has a feeling of being even better!

Fall of Night by: Rachel Caine: The fourteenth novel in the Morganville Vampires series. In this novel Claire really leaves Morganville for Boston where she encounters more trouble than she ever has before. The people that she thought she could trust turned out to be the people she shouldn’t. The novel was gripping and full of surprises. Every chapter led to something new and exciting to read about. This novel only had points of view for Claire and Shane who were the main characters, but it would have been great to read more points of view. The novel ended on a cliffhanger so you have to wait until the next book to find out what is going to happen next. Even though there are fourteen novels, each new book has something new that happens to keep the reader reading. So if you’ve started the journey in this series, it’s worth it because it never gets boring.

Daylighters by: Rachel Caine: The fifteenth novel and the last novel in the Morganville Vampires series. In this final story, the gang, Claire, Shane, Eve, Michael, Amelie, Oliver, and Myrnin, head back to Morganville only to find it not the way they left it. The humans are now in charge instead of the vampires, and it’s up to Claire and her friends to set the town right for the last time. The last book was written well, you didn’t want it to end, but all stories have to end somewhere. Though the author did mention that this might not be the last book, she is all up for fan-fiction she wrote in a blog post on her website upon release of this book. So you have permission from the author to continue the story she has created. In this novel she has left a lot of room wide open for what could come, but the ending is still a perfect ending.
