Hello friends, and happy Friday! I hope you’ve all had a good week. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Mark Haddon’s novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by: Mark Haddon: When Wellington, the neighbour’s dog, is murdered, Christopher takes it upon himself to find out who did it. As his sleuthing continues, his father tells him to stop, but Christopher can’t stop, he needs to know. This only leads him finding out a lot more than just who murdered Wellington, which changes everything he’s ever known and causes him to panic and leave town. This novel really took the reader into the headspace of a teenage boy living with autism. It felt real and true; there were moments when it would be very calculated, yet very chaotic at the same time, which the reader found to be something to get used to. As for the plot, the reader was on board from the start; finding out who murdered the dog, all the way to seeing the main character navigate his way to London, the reader couldn’t stop reading because they needed to know how it was going to end. This was easy to read in such a short span of time because it was so hard to put down. The characters felt honest and real; even though some of the secondary characters could be so infuriating to read about, their reactions felt true to real life. The main character was a joy to read and watching him triumph through everything was really enduring to read. It was also a joy to read the way he thought because the way he viewed the world was quite simple and most of us forget about the simple things in life so it was nice to be reminded of that again. All in all, this was not so much a mystery as it was a coming of age story that was really well written.
