Movie Review: Bird Box

It’s Friday everybody! Today I’m going to be posting my thoughts on the movie Bird Box.

I’m wondering for people who’ve read the book, what their experience was like. They would know the story and already know what was going to happen. Would it have been as thrilling as someone who just walked into the film blindly? (pun intended)

Bird Box: The world as we know it is ceasing to exist; there is a horrible monster that controls people’s minds and makes them want to kill themselves, but only if they look at it. Seeking shelter after her sister succumbs to this disease, Malory finds herself in a houseful of people who have all equally lost someone. But how long can they trust each other, or the outside world? It’s a mad chase to find hope and a new world much better than this. This film feels like it was a take on our reality and what could possibly happen with the way the world is going, and if that’s the case, at least there is hope for some good. This film was done well; it was thrilling the entire time. The viewer was always on the edge of their seat because they had no idea what was going to happen next. The characters were compelling even if they were all such introverts, none of them were the type to want to share information and resources, and that gave this film edge. The acting was also really well done, the actors helped create this space and made it so believable that the viewer was always scared for them throughout the whole film. The mini romances, friendships and hook ups were just added bonuses to get the reader off the edge for a bit, and these scenes were done just right. There were some quite gory moments as well, but for the most part was kept to a minimal. Overall, this was a well put together film that was definitely worth watching. Yes, it was thrilling, but it wasn’t complete scare your pants off scary which is what made it to investable and engaging.
