Review: Shelter

Happy Halloween 🎃! I hope you all are getting your spook on! 👻 Today I’m posting my review of Shelter by Jung Yun.

Shelter

Shelter by: Jung Yun: In the midst of renting out their house, Kyung Cho and his wife Gillian, get interrupted when Kyung’s mother shows up naked and badly beaten. It’s now up to Kyung to step up and figure out what happened and help his parents out. The downside, his relationship with his parents has never been good and when all are under one roof, emotions run high and the truth unravels in the most heartbreaking of ways. This novel was haunting; all the bad things that accumulated to get to the end was truly evocative. This was a sad tale of poor family dynamics and the way Yun wrote it was masterful, making it so raw, real and truly believable. The plot was so riveting and captivating, but it was also so very poignant. From the moment this novel started to the very last page the reader is glued to the story, almost in fear about what is going to happen next. Even though the chapters are very long, the reader found themselves flying through scenes with ease. The characters were created so well and they all just had the right amount of good and bad in them that really tested them throughout the novel. This story was full of surprises that left the reader in shock. As much as this novel was heartbreaking, it also had its moments of warmth.
