Gleanings

Gleanings by: Neal Shusterman: This was a collection of short stories told from within the scythe universe. These stories helped to enrich this already amazingly built up world and really gave a back story to the places and people we had seen throughout the trilogy. With thirteen different stories, each one served a different purpose, and each one wowed the reader in different ways. There was only one story that the reader didn’t really care for, the others were just as original and thought provoking as the trilogy was. Shusterman has a beautiful and creative way with, not only words but with concepts, and the way he shapes them up into plots for a story is beyond incredible. Some of these short stories were co-written with other authors but it all blended so well together and so seamlessly. This was fast-paced and had the reader so excited to be back in this world that they wished there were more to keep going; the reader could read a thousand stories set in this world. The stories bounced around through time, and some felt like they had a call-back to other stories within this collection, which was fun and a clever way to keep everything so contained and connected. If you’re a fan of the Arc of a Scythe trilogy, this is definitely a read you don’t want to miss.
