Review: Last Seen Leaving

Hi friends, happy Wednesday! Today I’m going to be reviewing Caleb Roehrig’s novel Last Seen Leaving.

Last Seen Leaving

Last Seen Leaving by: Caleb Roehrig: When Flynn’s girlfriend, January, goes missing the cops begin asking questions Flynn can’t answer, so he does some investigating of his own to uncover secrets January has been keeping from him. Meanwhile, Flynn has secrets of his own that he needs to free himself of to live his true self. This was a rollercoaster of a novel. The plot, as a whole, was interesting and it intrigued the reader, but digging in further, the story got very busy really quickly. Not only is January missing, there’s murder and rape, a pregnancy, as well as a coming out story and it just felt like a lot to take in for one novel. As much as there was a lot going on, and this helped move the plot, the actions of the characters were so irrational and slightly immature. Roehrig did a really good job of creating his teen characters because they were all full of teen angst and when put in these situations it makes sense that a teenager would react in those ways, but there was something really illogical in their choices. Even the adult characters weren’t likeable in a cliché sort of way that made this story frustrating to read. Combine that with a plot that had a lot thrown at it and you get a less than thrilling read. The conclusion was good, but everything leading up to it was slightly irritating to read. The reader really wanted to like this, but it ended up just an okay read.
