Hi everyone! Happy Monday! Today I’m going to be reviewing Moïra Fowley-Doyle’s novel The Accident Season.
The Accident Season by: Moïra Fowley-Doyle: Every October for Cara and her family is what’s known as the accident season; a season where their family is prone to accidents. Some years are worse than others, like the year her father died, others it’s just cuts and bruises. Now that she and her siblings are older, the truth starts to spill out about the origin of the accident season. The novel had a creepy/spooky vibe to it, but the plot seemed riddled with unnecessary romantic plotlines. The author should have just stuck with the main thriller plotline and really defined that; that would have made for a bit of a better read. The idea was good, Fowley-Doyle’s pacing was good and that’s what made this novel really enjoyable. The writing was excellent, but her characters were alright. They just didn’t do anything for the reader; they weren’t memorable and the reader had a hard time keeping track of who was who and who was related to whom in what way. This was a good attempt at a thriller novel, but there was too much romance in the way to make it a great novel.
I like the premise of this book, too, but I wouldn’t be keen on the romance, either, if it doesn’t add to the story.

Yeah, like I said great idea, not really greatly executed

I’ve seen this book around before but until your review didn’t have a clue what it was about. 🙂 The Accident Season does sound really good, but from the sounds of your review the story doesn’t quite live up to the concept. A shame but I don’t think I’d feel any differently about this one than you did, I’m not a fan of when the romance gets in the way of the plot.
Great review Meghan! 🙂

Yeah, it would have been such a good book if there wasn’t all the unneeded romance
Thanks for reading Beth! 🙂

Always a shame when that happens, hopefully your next read will be a better one then.
That’s all right. 🙂
