It’s hump day! We made it to Wednesday! It feels like this week is barely moving, and this weather is not helping! Today I’m going to be reviewing Gillian Flynn’s novella The Grownup.

The Grownup by: Gillian Flynn: A young woman who is just looking to make ends meet sets herself up as a psychic, but when Susan Burke walks through her place, things turn ugly. Faced with something evil lurking in her house, Susan invites the young woman to use her psychic abilities to expel whatever it is in the house, but Susan’s stepson, Miles is yet another forced to be reckoned with. Set up much in the same way as her novel Gone Girl, this short story has good rhythm for the most part, but kinda loses it by the end. This novella is thrilling and exciting but the ending leaves the reader defeated and asking what’s the point because it felt like the story just ended. The characters are what really make this work; they are so well thought out and Flynn gives so much detail to the main character, even though she doesn’t have a name. At first what doesn’t seem to have any relevance, turns around to meaning everything to the story. It felt like it should have been a tad bit longer to get a better resolution, but that aside this was a very well told story.
