Review: Commonwealth

Hello friends! I hope Monday has treated you well, (when I wrote that yesterday, I had no idea what was in store for me today… man has today sucked!) I do hope everyone had a better Monday than me. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Ann Patchett’s novel Commonwealth.

Commonwealth

Commonwealth by: Ann Patchett: When Bert Cousins shows up to a party uninvited and kisses Franny’s mother Beverly, this begins the downfall of two marriages and the start of two families joining together. This was a rollercoaster of a novel. Spanning five decades, this novel really takes in the twists and turns of family life and the chaos that consume it. The plot took all these dips and dives into these character’s lives, and it kept things interesting for a while, but after a bit, the stories got boring and the reader didn’t know what the point of them were anymore. On top of that, all the relationships between the families got super confusing; the reader had a hard time trying to remember who’s point of view it was, and what their relation was to whomever, needless to say it got tiring fast. The writing was good, but mixed with the plots that felt like they led to nowhere and the characters that the reader just couldn’t connect with, the writing just got overlooked. This was a novel that felt full of potential but unfortunately didn’t reach it.

    1. See, that premise sounds like it would be totally interesting, but this is the second time that it’s failed me… I guess I’m just not supposed to read books like this! 😂
