Books and Bakes Book Tag

Hi guys, happy Thursday! The weather has been gorgeous! I can’t complain ☀️I hope you’re all doing well! It’s been a while since I’ve done a tag (maybe a month) so thank you to Lauren @Narrative Paradise for tagging me in this. This is perfect for me as I love baking! Lauren, you know me well! 🙂

This tag was created by created by Life is a Page Turner.

Cupcakes. Name a collection of short stories, poems, or anthologies where you couldn’t read just one section and had to go back for another.

Oh boy. I’m going to go with something I haven’t read yet because I know I’m going to be re-reading it. I could go with any Stephen King short story collection but I’m just going to go with the first one, Night Shift. I can’t wait to dive in, it has Children of the Corn in it, and I loved that story!

Lemon Pound Cake. Name a book that has 400 pages or more that you considered a comfort read and a classic.

There are so many qualifications for this question! I recently read Anger is a Gift by Mark Oshiro and it was over 400 pages, I think it will become a classic; as for it being a comfort read I don’t know. I had so many feelings reading it, but maybe it’s good to feel all those emotions every once in a while.

Red Velvet Cake. Name a book that you thought was one thing, but ended up being something completely different.

Most books I read I don’t know much going in because I refuse to read the synopsis so this is hard. Like I could say A Shadow Bright and Burning– I thought it was about witches but it was about sorcerers, which isn’t very far off. I could say Tweet Cute– I thought it was going to be a cute fluffy romance and I got a dumb Twitter war that was fuelled by revenge that I just couldn’t stand. Yeah, let’s go with that.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Name a book or a book series that you can read over and over again even though you know that it’s bad for you.

It’s that time of year where I read Dorian Gray again. I don’t know if it’s bad for me, but I love re-reading it every year!

Apple Pie a la Mode. Name a book that was really good but could have been better with a little bit of ice cream.

The book I recently finished: The Mime Order by: Samantha Shannon. I really liked it, but there was just something lacking in this second novel that I wish was more like the first. Loving the series, though!

Gingerbread Cookies. Do you like your gingerbread cookies crunchy or soft?

Most definitely, soft!

1. If you like your cookies soft, name a book that was squishy in the middle, but the beginning and the end were really good.

The King of Crows by: Libba Bray. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this book so much, but things were a little on the slow side in the middle; the start and end were very good!

2. If you like your cookies crunchy or more like ginger snaps, name a book that you finished but that you wanted to throw at a wall, or snap.

I’m sorry Oliver Twist, but I just couldn’t get into it. I wanted so hard to like it, but I just couldn’t.

Brownies. Are you a corner piece or a middle piece?

Definitely a middle piece!

1. If you’re a corner piece, name a book that starts off strong and then all comes apart.

I’m going to change book to series… recently I decided to re-read the Uglies series. Uglies was SO good. I loved the world and the characters. Pretties was iffy, then I got to Specials and I was like what am I reading? The end sorta picked back up, but it was definitely not as good as the start of the series.

2. If you’re a middle piece, name a book that kept you in the feels the entire time.

Almost Adults by: Ali Pantony. I recently finished reading this… UGH SO GOOD. EVERYONE READ IT!

Birthday Cake. Name a book series or an author that you feel like keeps coming out with a book, short story, novella every year.

Cassandra Clare… she doesn’t stop… like how?! She had one book come out a few months ago… and another later this year…

Carrot Cake. Name a book that sounded healthy for you but ended up being unhealthy, either with content or by putting you in a reading slump.

Hmm… The Way I Used to Be by: Amber Smith dealt with rape and it just put me in a mood. The same with a lot of Ellen Hopkins books that deal with all types of triggering topics. I remember reading Crank and just being in a state after that. Hopkins has such a powerful way of writing.

Tag some friends you would love to share some baked goods with.

  1. Meghan! I love the books you chose!

Surely Anger is a Gift will become a classic! It has to, right?

I’m really intrigued that you reread Dorian Gray every year. What do you like most about it?

I totally feel the same way about Ellen Hopkins – I feel so heavy after reading one of her books.

It looks like you changed your graphics recently – they look fantastic! (I’m sorry if I’ve already said this!)

    1. Thank you! 🙂

I couldn’t agree with you more I truly hope that Anger is a Gift will become a classic because it has so much to offer.

Haha! I get asked this every year about Dorian Gray. Honestly, the story has always stuck with me, and I feel like no matter how many times I read it, I find something knew to look at or appreciate. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I’m older each time I read it and have a slightly different perspective on life each time. There’s also something just comforting to me about reading that story.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this weight after reading Ellen Hopkins’ books!

I changed things a little bit yes, thank you for noticing! 😀
