Problematic Faves Tag

Hello my fellow friends and followers, today I’m winding down on my tags. This is the last one I know to do (so if you’ve tagged me in something and you haven’t seen it yet, please remind me to do it!) Today I’ve been tagged to do the Problematic Faves tag from the lovely Beth at Reading Every Night, please check out her blog if you haven’t already. Thank you for tagging me, and let’s get started!

A character everyone loves that you hate

I don’t know about everyone loving, but I can only assume so, Laia from An Ember in the Ashes by: Sabaa Tahir. She did nothing for me, and she’s the main character, so she should at least spark some sort of emotion, and I got nothing.

A character everyone hates that you love

These questions are hard when you don’t know what everyone hates. So I’m going to just adjust this to be current favourite character and that is Don Tillman (yes I’m using him twice), but his character has really struck me.

A character who started out problematic but grew to be a better person

The Dragon or Kasis, from Uprooted by: Naomi Novik. He is kinda good near the end.

A character who started out good but became problematic

Can I say all the characters from The Nest? But I guess Leo, the most, even though he wasn’t that “good” to start, but he got progressively worse.
I’m sure there is a better answer for this, but this is hard!

A problematic couple that you ship (doesn’t have to be canon)

Don Tillman and Rosie from The Rosie Project, and The Rosie Effect by: Graeme Simsion. They are so not right for each other, that it really becomes a problem, and yet they are so good for each other!

A couple everyone ships that you find problematic (doesn’t have to be canon)

Lou Clark and Will Traynor from Me Before You by: Jojo Moyes. Did they really think that was going to work?

They are cute I’ll give them that.

A problematic trope that you love

I’m not going to lie, when the good person tries to change the bad person to be good. I know it is super, super clichè, but man it’s kinda cute and works for me.

Like I always say, they all can’t be Nathan Scott.

A book/TV show/movie that is problematic but you love anyway

TV show: I’m saying Grey’s Anatomy for this. That show is one big problem after another, but Lord knows I can’t get enough of it.

A book/TV show/movie that you hate because it’s problematic

Book: The whole Gossip Girl series (the books not the TV show, I actually liked the TV show). The books just got to be too much. One day I’ll be posting my review of them… one day.

Lastly, your problematic fave

I’m going to say a Darker Shade of Magic trilogy.

  1. Great answers for this tag Meghan. I kind of have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Laia. I enjoyed her development in the first book but in the second she just completely changed and the choices her character made and the way she reacted was not something I could get behind, you know?
Also I’m going to be reading Uprooted next! I can’t wait to get started on it! 😀
