Hello everyone! So instead of posting my weekly TV Tuesday blog (yes that’s what I’m going to refer to it as) I decided, why not get in the spirit of school (even though I’m not going back).
Since today is September 1st I thought it was an ideal time to cover Harry Potter, since we’re all getting on the train to Hogwarts today right?
I love these novels, like every other person on the planet. I grew up waiting for the next release date to arrive, although it wasn’t until the last novel came out that I actually started to buy them.
Sidenote: Have you guy seen the new covers for them? I am not a fan. I would much rather they just stuck to the original, they are just so much nicer, and don’t look as cartoony.
But nonetheless the series is still one of my favourites that I always turn to to reread all the time because it never gets old!
Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone by: J.K Rowling: The first novel in the Harry Potter series. We meet the main character Harry, where he learns he’s a wizard. He gets accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and things get rolling. He’s learning to be a wizard on top of trying to save the school, and all wizards from He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. He struggles his way towards the stone where he has to fight Professor Quirrell for the stone. It’s a fun adventure that captivates the reader from the very first page. Rowling has made very dynamic characters, as well as whole world for the reader to fall in love with. If you haven’t read it, it’s a must read, because it’s easily loveable, doesn’t matter your age.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by: J.K Rowling: The second novel in the Harry Potter series. It’s Harry’s second year at Hogwarts, and if he thinks that this year will be just a normal year, he’s got it all wrong. The chamber of secrets hasn’t been opened for 50 years, but this year it’s been opened again. Harry, Ron and Hermione set to their detective work to find out who’s the one behind it all. Just like the first novel, the second is just as enticing, making it hard to put down. The plotline was continuous throughout the novel with a few side plotlines that all met up in the end, which made the novel make sense. It was one fun filled chapter after another of crazy things that happen at Hogwarts.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by: J.K Rowling: The third novel in the Harry Potter series. It’s Harry’s third year at Hogwarts where things aren’t quite the same. Guards from the Azkaban prison surround the school in hopes to catch the murder, Sirius Black. It’s a fantastic read that brings to life more than just the story, but the characters too. In this third novel, the characters, especially Harry, become more than just a two-dimensional character in a story, and more three-dimensional. The plotlines in this novel are even more dynamic than the first two novels, which foretells that some great storytelling is coming our way in the next novel in the series. But for now this novel surely is a great piece of literature.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by: J.K Rowling: The fourth novel in the Harry Potter series. It’s Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts, and it’s very different from any year before. To start things off, the Quidditch World Cup is in town, where Harry, Ron and Hermione attend, and the Dark Mark appears. This sets the plotline up for Voldemort’s return. On top of this plotline the Triwizdard Tournament is hosted at Hogwarts. Harry is expected to compete even though he isn’t of age. There is so much going on that it can get to be a bit much to read, but it is a very good read. It’s entertaining, and new themes are introduced to enhance the novel; it gives it an older feel, and the reader can tell that the main characters are getting older. The tone is set up perfectly in this novel for the next novel because now the reader knows what’s to come and can expect even greater things to come.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by: J.K Rowling: The fifth novel in the Harry Potter series. It’s Harry’s fifth year at Hogwarts, but before we even get to Hogwarts this year a dementor attack happens while he’s with his cousin Dudley. Harry is put on trial and almost expelled from school. No one wants to believe that the Dark Lord is back; it isn’t until he shows himself at the Ministry of Magic that people start to believe. And of course Harry has another showdown with him where he learns about a prophecy stating that it’s either him or the Dark Lord who can survive. It’s a very action packed novel from being to end; Rowling never lets the reader down because plotline after plotline the novel gets better and better. The reader can really tell that the novel has switched gears; it’s not so much focused on school anymore, but overcoming adversaries. The transition was pretty flawless though Harry’s character, as annoying as he was, was the perfect example of teen angst. Even with new characters introduced it still feels like we’ve known them; Rowling fits them in ideally. Overall, the novel was very well written, and not for a second boring.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by: J.K Rowling: The sixth novel in the Harry Potter series, and Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts. A lot of things change in this novel. The tone has been changing since the fourth novel in the series when Voldemort returned, and is now starting to peak to the climax of this plotline in this novel. Dumbledore entrusts Harry on his journey to stopping Voldemort by finding out everything there is to know about him; only this backfires on Dumbledore, leaving Harry to continue on without him, which is where the next novel will pick up. The characters are constantly growing, and evolving every novel as they shift out of their awkward teenage stages towards being young adults with romances and heartbreaks. Overall, another excellent novel from Rowling as the series is slowly comes to an end, but the action is just beginning!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by: J.K Rowling: The seventh, and final novel in the Harry Potter series. It has all come down to this moment, the moment Harry must fight Voldemort to save the wizarding world. Dumbledore has left Harry a mission to help him succeed in this journey. He, Ron, and Hermione set out in search of Voldemort’s Horcruxes that they must destroy, while his other friends, Luna, Neville, and Ginny fight at Hogwarts. The battle has to be won by someone, who will it be? Harry, or Voldemort. Characters bloom in this final novel, becoming their full potential. It’s amazing to watch these characters really evolve over the course of these novels. Not just the kid characters, but the adult characters as well. The plotline never wavered; it kept going until the very end, keeping the reader guessing and wondering how this series could possibly end. Overall, it has been an overly imaginative series that keeps readers wanting more, even when it’s over.
Harry Potter will always have a special place in my heart! ❤
