Hello! Happy Thursday! Today I’m going to be doing the Nope Book Tag, I haven’t seen this book tag yet so I’m excited to get to it. Thank you Lori @Lori’s Bookshelf Reads for tagging me in this, be sure to check out her blog for bookish content! πŸ™‚

Nope Ending:
A book that made you go NOPE either in denial, rage, or simply because the ending was terrible.

Everything, Everything by: Nicola Yoon.

I unfortunately didn’t like the way this ended.

Nope Protagonist:
A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

Amy Dunne from Gone Girl. I hated her; I hated everything she did to others, yet somehow I still read the whole book 😝

Nope Popular Pairing:
A β€œship” you don’t support.

Ok, unpopular opinion here, but I’m not big on the Emma and Julien ship from the Dark Artifices trilogy. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just not totally interested in it. #sorrynotsorry

Nope Protagonist action/decision:
A character decision that made you shake your head.

I’m going to go with Lisa from Highly Illogical Behavior by: John Corey Whaley because she does things for the wrong reasons, sure in the end they end up being for better reasons, but I couldn’t stand behind her in the beginning.

Nope Genre:
A genre you will never read.

Never is a strong word, but I don’t think I’ll ever read romance or erotic… it’s just not my thing.

Nope Book Format:
A book format you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

Again, hate is such a strong word! I’m not into ebooks… I’ll read it when it’s the only version that the library has (sometimes if the book is too long I’ll get someone from another city to take the physical book out at their library to avoid reading an ebook). I don’t mind hardcovers or paperbacks. Although if I start a series in hardback, I’d like to keep them all that way, or same goes with paperback.

Nope Trope:
A trope that makes you go nope.

I’m going to be basic in my answer here and say insta-love because I’m not a fan and I can’t stretch my brain at this time to come up with anything else.

Nope Recommendation: A book recommendation that is constantly hyped and pushed at you that you simply refuse to read.

I don’t have an answer for this as I don’t have books pushed at me that often, and I don’t usually give in to hype.

Nope ClichΓ©/pet peeve:
A clichΓ© or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

This probably falls under the trope question more, but when writers make their characters feel like they are’t good enough to do something because someone else is better qualified, meh.

Nope Love Interest:
The love interest that’s not worthy of being one/a character you don’t think should have been a viable love interest.

Maybe if I think hard enough about this, something will come, but right now I’m drawing a blank.

Nope Book:
A book that shouldn’t have existed.

I’m going to have to go with Lori’s answer for this because I agree. The Cursed Child by: J.K. Rowling. I’m sorry, but it was just trash.

Nope Villain
A scary villain/antagonist you would hate to cross and would make you run in the opposite direction.

Again, going with Lori’s answer because it’s perfect: Professor Umbridge from Harry Potter. Nope, would not want to cross her at all!

Nope Death
A character death that still haunts you.

Emma from One Day by: David Nicholls. Man, that was so hard-hitting, I was not prepared and uh still makes me sad.

Nope Author
An author you have had a bad experience reading and have decided to quit.

I’ve never had a bad experience with an author, as of this moment, so I don’t have an answer for this.

    Thanks for the tag! Gonna have to give this a thought cuz i couldn’t think of anything for most of these prompts, but i’m sure i’ve read some horrendous crap in the past πŸ˜€

  4. Thanks so much for the tag Meghan, and also great answers for this one. πŸ™‚ I really enjoyed Highly Illogical Behaviour but I agree with you about Lisa’s character. I wasn’t a fan of her at the beginning or the choices she made but the more development we got of her character the more I started liking her. I can’t say I’ll ever read romance or erotica and I hate insta-love too. The only trope I hate more is love triangles.

      Yah, it took a long time to warm up to Lisa, at first I really didn’t like her and I almost just wanted to ditch the book, but I’m glad I stuck to it.

  5. I’m not sure how I feel about Emma and Julien yet. Mostly because I have only read Lady Midnight so far. I do love Julien as a character, but I don’t think I like him and Emma together? I don’t know, we shall see once I read the complete series.
    The Cursed Child is such a bad book! I seriously hated it, aside from Scorpius Malfoy who helped me get through it. That book felt like a shitty fanfiction and nothing more. I agree, it really shouldn’t exist!

    I also wasn’t really a fan with the ending of “Everything, Everything”; it got a little too much near the end. But to each their own. I felt the same with the genre question. I don’t think there’s a genre I won’t read, but I do tend to avoid erotica (though I read one with those elements and it was pretty decent) and anything with clowns…

    I also prefer the physical copies, but ebooks can be helpful! If I buy a series in one format, they have to be in the same … it’s just a thing ha-ha!!

    Ugh … insta-love … I think I put the same for mine ha-ha! And I put not wanting to read “The Fault in our Stars”. I’m sure it’s great — just not my thing.

    Oh my gosh … I didn’t put “Cursed Child” but I should’ve!! That book DOES NOT belong with the series!!! It’s awful!!

    LOL! So many of us have put Professor Umbridge … but she’s terrifying! It’s sad that out of all the books I’ve read, she still scares me the most.

    I haven’t been able to read anything by Roth after her torturing me with Divergent … oh well.

      Haha, yeah erotica is just not my thing… I find that sometimes they just lack plot and it ends up like reading porn πŸ˜›

      Physical copies will always be my number 1. The fact that I don’t own a kobo, kindle, or other reading device makes ebooks hard.

      Yeah, I think John Green isn’t for everyone. Plus, I think if you’ve read one of his books, you’ve read the baseline to all his books.

      Ha! Nope, The Cursed Child… was exactly that, a cursed child πŸ˜›
