Hi friends! Happy Thursday! Today I’m going to be participating in My Good Reading Habits tag. I was tagged by my Canadian buddy, Jenna @Bookmark Your Thoughts. Thanks girl! If you haven’t checked out Jenna’s blog, whatcha waiting for? As Nike puts it, Just Do It! She’s truly a sweet human! π
Alright, let’s get into it!
The Rules
- List some of your good reading habits.
- Tag the person who tagged you.
- Pingback to the original post byΒ Ally Writes Things.
- Nominate some of your blogging friends.
- Bookmarks
I will never fold a page over. Ever. I will flip the book upside down before I fold a page. I always use bookmarks. I have a few laying around and I know that people have serious collections of them… mine isn’t serious… yet. But I pride myself by always using a bookmark. - Writing my reviews close to finishing the book
I can boast about this because I finished a book two nights ago and then maybe 10 minutes later I started writing my review… which happens very rarely. Usually I write my review the next day. When I finish a book I write my initial thoughts down on paper. This gives me time to think on those thoughts before I write the review. The other day I just felt inspired and I didn’t want to wait! - My TBR strategy
I have a weird TBR strategy, but I’m really proud of it. I love keeping the emails from Goodreads that give you ‘best books of the month’ or ‘books by authors you’ve read’ and the like. I have a whole folder of them that goes back to… September 2016. I delete them as I read through the lists and the way I do that is by adding a month or two worth of books from those lists to a physical paper TBR. Before I add them to the paper TBR I have to 1) make sure the library has it to start and 2) see if it’s a series, sometimes if it’s a series I’m less likely to add it. From there I pick and highlight once I’ve read the book. You have no idea how satisfying it is to highlight it once I’ve finished a book! It’s a system that really works for me, and I’ll never be short books to read! - Using my local libraries
As I mentioned above, I always use my library to read books. It’s very rare I actually buy a book to read. So being able to go every Saturday to the library to pick up books to read is such an enjoyment for me. It makes me feel good to give back to the community in a small way by using the library… as our government wants to cut them all together. UGH. - I read pretty much everythingThis statement is true. I know I’ve said I don’t do romance or erotica, but I’ve tried them to know I don’t care for them. I never put a book down because of its genre. Sometimes (most of the time) I never know what I’m getting into and that’s the fun of it all right?

And anyone else who wants to do this! Don’t feel pressured! π
I do my reviews in a very similar way, in fact I always write immediately after reading the book or the next day, and that helps me to have my thoughts clearer ππ

Right?! Otherwise I forget some details I want to write about. It’s easier if I write the review either the same day… although most of the time I finish a book too late to write it the same day, so I write it the next day! π

You are just so adorable, Canadian buddy! Thank you for the compliments! And YES TO BOOKMARKS!! They’re the best! I have those magnetic ones … love! I also write my reviews pretty much right after I read the book. Love your answers!

Oh, aw thanks π
Of course! βΊοΈ
Those bookmarks seem so cool! I need to get myself some I think!
I feel like it’s the best way to write reviews… to me, otherwise I forget everything I wanted to say. I feel bad that I can forget things so fast, but I’m always reading something so I forget π
Thanks! Thanks again for tagging me π

True! Haha I’m still learning it! π Sometimes I think ‘oh I’ll remember what I want to say’ and then I just don’t

Ahh what a fun tag! I admire the fact that you can write your reviews so quickly after reading a book, I always take FOREVER to write them and… then I have forgotten a lot of things, especially the characters’ names hahaha.
I always use bookmarks as well, yay! π

Right?! π I try really hard. If I don’t write it right away, I won’t write a review at all, so right after is a way for me to really sit down with it, plus I feel really good after I do it! π

Oh thanks so much for the tag Meghan! I wish I could say I had as many good reading habits as you do though (I mean, I probably have more than I think I do but at the moment I’m coming up blank on what they could be).
Granted I do always use bookmarks, the thought of turning down a page or even cracking the spine on one of my books hurts my very soul. I try to use my local library (does that count?) but unfortunately they don’t have a great selection. I think it’s great you can use yours so much.
Great post, and again thanks for the tag. π β€

You’re welcome! π I’m sure you have some good reading habits! Some you don’t even realize until you actually go to write them… that’s what happened to me! π
Bookmarks are the best! π
Oh! I hate cracking spines… my mother is good for it so I’m always reluctant to lend her my books!
At least you try, that’s better than nothing, but I understand. I know that I have friends in another city whose library isn’t as good as mine so I know how lucky I am! π
Thanks Beth! I can’t wait to read your answers! π β€οΈ

Yeah probably, I mean in some ways the fact that I do read is a good reading habit! I guess Iβll just have to see what I can think of when I come to doing this tag myself.
Iβd never lend my books to someone who cracks the spines of their books, Iβd never forgive them if they did that to mine either.
Iβm hoping once I move Iβll get a better local library.
Thatβs all right, and thanks Meghan. π β€οΈ

Yes! Exactly! π
Right, my copy of Twilight went through the ringer as it went through so many people, that spine is sad haha π
Oh, I hope so too. Libraries are such a great place! :)β€οΈ

Ohh that must have been hard to witness, but I dunno sometimes I like old books with broken spines, it kind of adds to their character and you know they’re broken because they’ve been well read and loved. π

I feel this, it does show how worn and loved it is! π

Plus in a way it had more memories associated with it too. π

I like your TBR strategy!
Quite often i peruse those lists on goodreads too, and often find really good stuff π
I can never keep to a set list tho, but i have a vague idea of books i want to read fairly soon. Meaning, within this year. And just add to those whatever i fancy at the moment.

Thank you! π
Right, it’s great because then I know I’ll always have something to read!
I try really hard to stick to a list, sometimes I go off script haha, but I know that sticking to lists when all the books look so good is hard! π

This seems like a really fun tag! Thank you for tagging me. β€ I'm just now realising that I find it easier to name my bad reading habits than my good ones, so we shall see how this will go. π

You’re welcome! π
I agree with you, I had a hard time coming up with some good ones. I ended up looking at what other people said for this tag to give me inspiration!

I’m preparing to schedule my post for this book tag, and I realized that I never actually commented and thanked you for tagging me! Just moved straight on to writing it! :O
Thank you, for the tag! I clearly was too excited to start writing it as soon as possible π
You have some really good reading habits! It took me ages to think about mine (and I was only able to come up with 4.. oh well π )
P.S. The habit I 100% need to adopt is to write reviews as soon as I finish reading the book. Because I never do that and then start panicking when all reviews and deadlines start to pile up! Lol

Oh haha! That’s ok! I’m glad you were that eager to do the tag! π
You’re welcome I hope you had fun with it! π
Thank you! It took me a while to think of some too! I even looked at some of other people’s answers to get the ball rolling!
Oh haha! I try really hard to write things as soon as I read them… I really bad with movie reviews because sometimes it’s a week later and I still haven’t written a review! π

Ahaha, I wish I’d be only week late with my reviews. I think I have 5 or 6 to write of the books I read in Feb / March π
