Hi friends, I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’m going to be posting my review of C.J. Tudor’s novel The Taking of Annie Thorne.

The Taking of Annie Thorne by: C.J. Tudor: Twenty years ago, something happened to Joe’s sister, Annie, before she died tragically. Everyone thinks they know what happened to her, but only few know the truth, or think they do. Now years later, Joe finds himself back in his hometown and what happened to Annie could possibly be happening again. This novel was highly suspenseful and gruesome. The plot was really engaging as the reader tries to figure out all the reasons the main character has come back to his hometown and to find out what really happened to his sister. Thriller mixed with a little horror, this story takes the reader down a dark and eerie path; this was just the right amount of scary to spook the reader and to keep them on the edge of their seat. The writing was brilliant; Tudor knows how to capture an audience and how to keep them flipping the page. Her use of imagery throughout the novel really gave vivid visuals that really painted a picture. The reader couldn’t help but notice how similar this story and the characters were to her first novel, The Chalk Man, but this novel on its own was very well written and put together. Her characters were developed with multiple layers to them, and they were never, at face value, what they seemed, which is what the reader loved about them. They either had these dark undertones or more of a softer side to them under hard shells. As a whole, this novel was a gripping tale on chasing ghosts.
