Hello, and happy Monday! Today I’m going to be reviewing Becky Albertalli’s novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda.
Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by: Becky Albertalli: Simon is a sixteen-year-old trying to navigate life as a gay teenager. Emailing back and forth with a guy whose identity is unknown to him other than he goes by ‘Blue’; Simon knows he’s falling for him. Not outed as gay yet, but when his email gets into the wrong hands, he starts getting blackmailed; this sets Simon out to come out of his comfort zone. The novel was very well written, and the plot was incredibly adorable. The author took an occurrence that happens, and made it super relatable to anyone reading it. The title of this novel is beautifully crafted and tied so well into the plot that gives the novel complexities. Albertalli’s characters are your stereotypical teenagers with a bit of a twist that gives the novel that extra reason to read it. Her characters really show how important family, friends and a support system are to have, for anyone, not just someone coming out. Overall, this novel was witty, smart, and just dramatic enough to keep the reader reading.
