Hi friends! Happy Tuesday and Happy St. Patrick’s Day β
I hope you’re all staying safe out there. Today was day 2 of working at home (I hope you don’t mind my mini-updates π ) and I think today went better than yesterday; I spoke with my co-worker on the phone to coordinate work, and just talking to her made me feel better. I also had to step out for some groceries, the stores were very bare and quiet. Update over!
Today I’m going to be doing the Women’s History Book Tag. I was tagged by the Tag Queen, Lauren @Narrative Paradise, she’s an awesome blogger that you all should follow!
Rules:
- Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post.
- Link to theΒ creatorβs blog in your post; Margaret @Β Weird Zeal
- Answer the questions belowΒ using only books written by women
- Feel free to use the same graphics
- Tag 8 others to take part in the tag
I’m plugging this book twice and I don’t even care; Norma from the Kopp Sisters series is a force to be reckoned with. Much like her sister Constance (which you’ll read about below) Norma follows her own rules and her heart, does what she wants without thought. I love how free-spirited she is (even if she can be really out there at times!) she knows what she wants and she goes for it.
I’m going to go with Starr from The Hate You Give by: Angie Thomas. She fights for what she believes in, but she’s smart a knows that she has to strategically fight to get what is right. I adore and admire Starr.
I had such a hard time choosing between this prompt and the first to use Constance from the Kopp Sisters books by: Amy Stewart. Constance is with the police force and is a woman in power in the 1920s and she’s so unapologetically her, she does what she knows is right even if the men don’t think so. She always follows her nose (which gets her into hot water at times!) and she’s such a badass! I don’t think I could recommend a book series more!
Anything Seanan McGuire writes! Her Wayward Children series is just so poetically written that I feel I could quote it for days. How does one just write prose so well it flows and it conquers!
Alright, so not “warrior” in the sense of woman with shield and spear, but Casey Duncan from the Rockton series by: Kelley Armstrong is a cop in the middle of nowhere, Yukon with a killer on the loose who knows how to not only protect herself but the people of her small town. This series is highly suspenseful and as I say, Casey is an amazing kickass character that I would want on my team!
Alright, confession time… I don’t think I’ve read a book set in space… send some recommendations!
I’m going to go with unappreciated trilogy, because I haven’t seen a lot of talk about the Schuyler Sister’s trilogy by: Beatriz Williams. Each of those girls were badasses and really showed how strong and independent women are, no matter what crap life threw at them!
Everything Leads to You by: Nina LaCour. It wins me over because I loved the slow-burn f/f romance and the characters were so well written. I love anything Nina LaCour writes.
My first thought before I Googled ‘award winning books’ was Speak by: Laurie Halse Anderson and I’m going to stick with that answer because it totally deserves all the award and honors it got. I haven’t read this since I had to read it in grade 9, and I’ve really wanted to re-read it. I should see where I can get a copy. This story is so hard hitting but so important.
Oh man, all of the above inspire me. But I’m going to go with a memoir for this last one. Mara Wilson’s memoir ‘Where Am I Now?’ was so insightful into her life, but also in regards to mental health and being an advocate for it. I related to her memoir harder than I thought I would, but it made me feel less alone in my thoughts, and was definitely very inspiring for me.
