The Princess and the Fangirl

The Princess and the Fangirl by: Ashley Poston: All Imogen wants is to save her favourite TV show, Star Field’s Princess Amara from being killed off. When she gets mistake as Jessica Stone, the actress who plays the princess, she realizes this could be her chance. Meanwhile, Jessica wants nothing to do with playing the Princess anymore, but when it looks like her script has been leaked, she uses Imogen to switch places so she can find out who’s behind it. While playing each other, they both learn the value Princess Amara has on this universe. This was another fun read in this fairy tale retelling trilogy. The world expanded a little more and we really got to see the perspective shift from people who love this Star Field universe to someone who is coming in as an insider and that was really well done. The reader really appreciated seeing this standpoint because it started to round the world out more and give it dimension. The plots felt more believable this time around; it was still a bit of a stretch, but how it all came together felt more organic than the first. The characters in this one also acted like teenagers because they were teenagers; the reader was sad we didn’t get more of the adult characters because from glimpses we got, they sounded fun. As for the plots themselves, they were good, but there wasn’t anything that truly shocked or wowed the reader; the major twist, they figured out many chapters before it was revealed. The whole swapping places plot was entertaining; it was fun to see the characters interact with each other and see them be their true selves when they could let their guards down. They were well developed and it was good to see characters from the first novel in this one. Most of them just made appearances, but one of the side characters from the first became the focus here and it was great to see more growth and a more complete character too. The new characters also brought a lot to the story in new and dramatic ways, which made for a good read. In the end, there were a lot of little moments that came together to make some really beautiful scenes throughout.
