Hello friends, happy Monday! I hope you’re all off to a good start to the week. Today was the first real hot day of the year here, glad to see summer is on it’s way! Today I’m going to be reviewing Anna-Marie McLemore’s novel When the Moon Was Ours.

When the Moon was Ours by: Anna-Marie McLemore: Sam and Miel are best friends; Miel has roses that grow out of her wrists and Sam is known for his moon paintings. Everyone knows to stay away from the Bonner girls, but now they are after Miel for her roses, claiming their scent can make anyone fall in love. Miel now has a choice give up her roses, or let the girls take every secret she’s tried to keep. This was a beautiful story about falling in love, the ups and downs that go with it and the power of persuasion. The themes in this novel were really good too, but the flowery, whimsical writing made it really hard for the reader to follow along. The writing by itself was very pretty and the reader did enjoy it; the metaphors were interesting and have never been heard of before, which is what helped make this story so original. The plot was compelling and engaging; it was a little slow-paced, but overall it let the reader fall into the story. McLemore’s characters were created well with all these layers to them that gave them depth and made them characters the reader was invested in. Overall, this novel was a whimsy tale that sucked the reader in.
