Review: The Unexpected Everything

Happy Wednesday friends! Today I’m going to be posting my review of Morgan Matson’s novel The Unexpected Everything.

The Unexpected Everything

The Unexpected Everything by: Morgan Matson: Andie thought her whole summer was planned out for her; she’d go to her medical internship and gain extra experience to be on the right track to her future… that is until a horrible scandal with her father’s political campaign happens and her internship is revoked. Now she has to find something to fill her summer, what transpires is an experience Andie will never forget. This novel was a mushy, ooey gooey, melt your heart kinda story. It was syrupy sweet, yet at the same time it dealt with so much hurt and heart ache. The plot was addicting; the writing was masterful, captivating and fast-paced. The reader was always so caught up in the story that they didn’t want to leave and put the book down. The themes in this novel were heavy yet they didn’t feel that way. Matson has a way of writing big topics and really breaking them down and creating a great narrative. This novel was definitely relatable and realistic and that’s also what made it so easy to read. Her characters were well put together and the reader could tell time was taken to make them just right. This has everything you’d want from a contemporary young adult novel and more.

  1. I’m really glad you enjoyed this book Meghan. 🙂 When it comes to YA contemporary Morgan Matson is one of my all-time favourite authors, she writes fluffy and cute romance stories but there are bigger topics at play and she manages to make it work so well together so there’s not one aspect which overpowers the other.
Is this her first book you’ve read? Do you have another of her releases on your TBR list to get around to soon?
    Also great review. 🙂 ❤️

I’m glad to hear that! This was my first book by Morgan Matson and as of right now I don’t think so… but I could be wrong haha! I wouldn’t mind reading another of her books, they are really good! 🙂

      1. That’s all right, and oh in that case you have to read her others. They’re amazing.
My favourites are Second Chance Summer, Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour and I really enjoyed Save the Date so those are high on my recommendations list for you. 🙂
