Review: Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology

Hello, happy Wednesday! Today I’m going to be reviewing Leah Remini’s book Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology.

I have to say I had no idea who this actress was until I actually started reading this. I don’t know she doesn’t look the same on the cover as she does on the show King of Queens

Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology

Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology by: Leah Remini: Leah is a strong willed person who doesn’t back down easily, that persistence that she shows is what got her to where she is now. Battling through the church of Scientology and then through Hollywood, and again through Scientology. This biography Remini wrote about herself is not only heart-warming, but also heartbreaking. This book takes the reader through a lot of things that she had to go through, the side you don’t get to see very often from a celebrity and that is their religious side. This was completely engrossing and unexpectedly captivating, the amount of times the reader would lose track of time completely immersed in her world was crazy, in a good way. We obviously start at the beginning of her life which kinda leaves the reader unsure what direction this is going to go but boy does it take off. Through all her hardships the reader is there right alongside Remini. As the reader continues reading it is clear how cathartic and therapeutic this must have been for her to write it all out. Her writing never falters; she sticks to what she wants to say without going on tangents. Sometimes using her humour (which is what she is known for) sometimes it’s just her words alone, her story, that just conveys everything. Her biography also gives the reader an inside to the celebrities she was around, giving the reader a different perspective of them. It also showcased a front row seat to the church of Scientology, what it is, and about the good and the bad. Reading Remini’s fight against them was strong and empowering, and a full on great read.

  1. I’m seriously fascinated with the crazy cultish world of Scientology. I love her show on A&E too. It’s so heartbreaking to watch. (Plus, I remember Leah Remini from waaay back in the day as Stacey Carosi on Saved by the Bell, haha!)
