Happy Monday friends! Today I’m reviewing Rinker Buck’s book The Oregon Trail.
Every once in a while I like getting into non-fiction. Although I’m not going to lie I haven’t read a non-fiction book in almost a month and a half, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t enjoy it.

The Oregon Trail by: Rinker Buck: This book is the true story of Rinker and his brother Nick who set out to travel the Oregon Trail in a wagon pulled by mules. It’s a man’s journey across America to not only find himself, and do a little soul searching, but to reconnect with his brother in a way that only brothers can connect. The story was told in the first person point of view and takes on Buck’s account of his journey, which was quite the tale. The book mixes prose with facts about wagons, America and mules and horses. It was all very fascinating, especially for anyone who is either interested in the topic or is curious about life. The book did have its downsides; the story would pick up but get muddled with a lot of facts that would take away from what was happening and make it hard for the reader to get back to enjoying what is being told. It was great to read all these facts but it almost read like a textbook, and that’s where it got dull. For the most part this was an engaging and captivating read, Buck just got lost in facts along the way.
I’ve never actually read a non-fiction book for fun, or basically not because I’ve been assigned it while at high school/uni. This sounds like it could be an interesting read but I think if you found some of the facts too much like a textbook that would end up completely putting me off.
Still great review Meghan. 🙂

Thanks Beth! 🙂 I read them every once in a while. I wouldn’t suggest this as one of your first to read, I would recommend The Real Doctor Will see you Shortly by Matt McCarthy. It’s a memoir of his first year as a resident. Truly an amazing read.

That’s all right, and actually I’ll remember that book for if I ever do decide to pick up a non-fiction read, maybe one day. Thanks for the recommendation! 😀

No problem, I can’t wait to hear what you thought of it (when you decide to read it that is!) 🙂
