Review: Pretties

Hello friends, I hope you’re enjoying your Thursday. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Scott Westerfeld’s novel Pretties.

This is the second novel in this series.
You can read my review of the first novel: Uglies

Pretties

Pretties by: Scott Westerfeld: Tally has finally become a Pretty, it’s all she’s ever dreamed of and she intends to enjoy herself, that is, until her ugly past comes back to haunt her. Now that the memories of what being Pretty truly mean, Tally has a choice to make, stay Pretty and forget what she knows or fight for her life with the knowledge she has. This novel was just as fast-paced and full of action as the first novel was. The plot took characters on new adventures that the reader found really interesting and engaging. Although there was something about the tone of this book that felt different from the first; the first book was full of raw emotions and survival, and learning about the world; this book the reader was thrust into the world and it felt like they were expected to survive. Now that the characters have become ‘Pretty’ they were different versions of themselves that also really shifted the novel because it felt like the reader didn’t know who they were anymore. The character dynamics were tested and the betrayals that happened were definitely shocking. This second book went in directions the reader couldn’t have seen coming and that left for some entertaining reading. The reader can only wonder what will happen now that they are no longer Pretty. This world is still highly engrossing, and learning all its secrets, slowly, certainly makes for a wild journey.

    1. That was me! I read this series as a teenager, and I completely forgot everything about it, so I decided to reread it. I enjoyed my re-read for the most part, I would recommend it!
