Movie Review: I, Tonya

Happy Friday guys! We made it to the end of yet another week! Today I’m going to be sharing my thoughts on the movie I, Tonya.

I, Tonya

I, Tonya: This was definitely a case of real life being stranger than fiction. The story of the famous Olympian figure skater Tonya Harding and her trials and tribulations to how she got where she got and all the bad in-between. From her mother who was always so hard on her, to a boyfriend she let abuse her, and a giant scandal thrown in the mix, her life was far from ordinary. The acting in this film was stellar; it is very clear how Alison Janney won an Academy Award for her acting, she is phenomenal. Everyone in this film did an incredible job and it was engrossing to see it all come together. There were moments during the middle of the film where the plot seemed to drag a little, as it felt very dialogue heavy in plans, but without it, the viewer would be confused because the scandal was very complex in its process. The way they filmed it too was really well done. Part was done in documentary style, which was good for pacing and overall understanding of the film, they also chose for the actors to break the fourth wall by speaking to the audience, which made it personal, like the viewer was in on a secret. This film was fierce and it was very raw, yet very enjoyable and well worth it, not only for its storytelling, but for its filming techniques and how it was put together overall.
