Hi guys! Today is Throwback Thursday! Today I’m going back to look at Lisa McMann’s trilogy Dream Catcher.

I’m actually reading one of her middle grade books at the moment, and I just can’t help but love her writing style! I remember falling so in love with these books; they are quite the trip!

Wake by: Lisa McMann: Janie has been able to do strange things since she was eight. What would you do if you could see other people’s dreams? Poor Janie has that power and is trying to change how she controls them. The novel was written in the third person point of view, retelling Janie’s life. It sucked the reader in from the beginning, even though the story started off slow, and it was very unclear what the novel was all about. As the reader got further in, more was unfolded, which gave the reader a better understanding of not only the plots, and where the story was going, but for the characters; the reader felt and related to them more and more. As short as this novel is, it surely packs a punch of goodness.

Fade by: Lisa McMann: The second novel in the Wake trilogy. This time around Janie learns a few things about her power with the dreams, and some things that are just not pretty. Among working to make a big bust she starts to fall in love. The novel is written just like the first, if not even better. There is more of an edge, and there is more at stake in this one. The reader gets a sense into what will happen next and the story of Janie and Cabel is always fun to read. Definitely if you liked the first novel continue reading, this series is worth the read! The ending is super cute which really closes the story really well.

Gone by: Lisa McMann: The last novel in the Wake trilogy. It’s now or never; Janie has to decide what kind of life she wants to live, only she’s faced with a different option this time. Her dad has resurfaced, only to disappear before she can really make her decision. Finding out he is just like her, this helps in the deciding factor. The story was well done, and it was a good way to end the trilogy, though it could have been done a bit better. Plots were a little different, and that’s what kept the reader in. It was very compelling story that drew the reader in because the subject matter was so different then anything you’ve ever read before.
