Movie Review: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

Happy Friday friends! I hope you all had a great, productive week! I can’t believe yet another week has gone by! I swear, you blink and it’s over. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch:  Stefan is a young videogame designer and when he gets inspired by a choose your own adventure book called Bandersnatch, he decides he’s going to recreate the book as a video game. What he doesn’t realize is the book is controlling him, or is it? First off, the fact that this film was interactive was interesting in and of itself, but the plot to this film was definitely engaging. From the very beginning the viewer gets the choice if they want to take part or not, although is that really a question? It would be interesting to see what would happen if someone said no. The film moves through different scenarios in Stefan’s life, from the minuscule, picking a cereal to eat, to the drastic, making him jump off a building, or to kill. Although the viewer feels they are in control of the film, and the creators and actors do a hellva job creating this atmosphere, but does the viewer have control? Every time you reach so far in, what feels like a game, the viewer is rerouted to a different scene to what is inevitably back to the beginning and they are to start over, choosing different answers to get a different ending. This film could go on for days really; that’s the fun in it, but also the tiring aspect as you never know where you’re going to end up. This was definitely an interesting way to tell a story, and to keep the viewer involved so they don’t get bored. This could get re-watched quite a few times since you’d probably end up with a different ending each time. If you’re a fan of the TV show this is definitely worth checking out.
