Review: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald [Original Screenplay]

Hi everyone, happy Wednesday! I hope you’re all off to a good start to your week. Today I’m going to be posting my review of J.K. Rowling’s original screenplay Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald by: J.K. Rowling: Grindelwald is after one thing, and one thing only, destroying the peace between wizards and non-wizards and controlling both. In order to do this, he needs an army on his side and the key ingredient, Credence, a young man who doesn’t know who he truly is. Newt, Tina, Queenie and Jacob are on a mission to find Credence before Grindelwald does to put a stop to the madness. The plot was really well done; it was so intricate with all the weaving storylines and the amount of backstory it provides Harry Potter fans was incredible. Each character had their own agenda that they set out for themselves and it was fun to read it all come together and to see how the minor plots played into the major story arc. All the characters were driven by emotion and it was very well executed. This was fast-paced and let the reader escape for a little bit. This screen play can be read in one sitting and it was like watching the film all over again. What this did better than the film was the reader could understand character thought processes better because it was written out, whereas actors had to act out certain thoughts and sometimes that got lost in interpretation. All in all, this was a lovely addition to an already well established world, and after that shocking ending, it’s absolute more is yet to come.

  1. I didn’t read this one but I read fantastic beasts and enjoyed it. I saw this film though and … I don’t know how I feel. I feel as though there are a lot of plot holes … some that don’t reflect the HP books well. Maybe I’m missing something from the original HP books, but somethings that came to light don’t make sense … I guess we shall see in the next installment 🙂

    1. Oh I know what you mean, I didn’t like the movie much either, and I agree with you, I thought there were plot holes too… but for some reason I didn’t find them as bad in the screenplay, no idea why.
But I’m interested to see where it will go in the next instalment!

  2. I only own the first Fantastic Beasts, but haven’t read it yet. I did watch the movie and thought it was enough. Ahaha
The thing is… when I put books on one of the bottom shelves, I forget about them. So, thank you! for reminding me I still haven’t read the Fantastic Beasts screenplay and can’t call myself the true HP fan! 😀
