Review: A Monster Calls

It’s throwback Thursday again! In today’s throwback I’m going to be re-reviewing Patrick Ness’s novel A Monster Calls.

Read: December 2013
Rating: 4 Stars

A Monster Calls

A Monster Calls by: Patrick Ness: A tale of a boy who is on the verge of loosing his mother to a disease not mentioned, but it sounds like cancer. Everyone is telling him she’ll be fine and so he believes them. It isn’t until one day he meets the monster who he thinks will save his mother, but he goes crazy when the monster won’t do anything but tell him tales. These tales are to teach him life lessons, and maybe not to just teach the boy in the story, but the reader reading it too. It was a story about going through difficult situations in life and how you deal with them. Metaphors are used to keep the reader, especially a younger audience, into the book, and make it interesting. Overall, it’s a really good novel.
