Hi guys! Happy Friday! I’m really excited that the weather is finally changing over, especially as today is the start of the long weekend here in Canada. 😀☀️Today I’m going to be talking about my thoughts on the movie Get Out.
I just wanted to say off the top, that this was such a great movie. I had such a hard time articulating what I wanted to say; at one point I wasn’t even sure I was going to write a review, but last night I managed to spew words into a word document. I tried to be coherent in my thoughts but I just couldn’t stop gushing about it. I just thought it was so timely and important… okay here’s my review 😅
Get Out: When Chris agrees to meet his girlfriend, Rose’s parents for the first time, the couple go upstate to meet them. What starts as a bit of an uncomfortable start turns into scary facts that lead Chris scared for his life as he discovers the truth behind Rose’s family. This film was so well done. The plot kept the viewer involved, the story evolved in the most unexpected ways and the characters made the viewer feel so many emotions. The plot led the viewer to believe this was going to be a take on girl bringing her boyfriend home to meet the parents, playing on race and how everyone reacts to it. The viewer was not expecting what actually unfolded, and that was the beauty in this, the complete act of surprise that really thrilled and immersed the viewer into this world. These characters, just wow, the viewer is at a loss of words on them. They were so intense and so well-crafted and casted. At first, the viewer thinks one character is on the good side, but when things start to flip, no one knows who’s safe. The lying and deceiving with all the ulterior motives left the viewer with a lot of emotions. The viewer went from feeling bad, then a little sad, then downright angry, and finally scared for character’s lives, it was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions, that they would gladly go on again. This film was like a play on thrillers where the stereotype is the black person always dies first, and they flipped that so hard. The representation was so spot on too. The older white people trying to talk to a black person was just so accurate. Seriously, the writing, and the overall production of this movie was not unnoticed, it was all purposeful and it told an amazing story. This film deserves all the love and credit it continues to get.
I saw this film really recently and really enjoyed it. 🙂 I’m not a massive horror/thriller movie fan but after seeing Peele’s Us I had to check out Get Out too.
I love how he twisted things on their heads, played with the stereotypes like you said. I knew going in how Get Out would end but I still loved being able to actually see it happen on the screen you know?
Have you seen Us? I’d definitely recommend it if you haven’t. 🙂
Great review Meghan. 🙂 ❤️

I’d definitely recommend it, I actually enjoyed it more than Get Out and as a non-fan of horror films I feel like that’s saying something! 😀

This film was so important and equally terrifying! The sudden dawn of realisation on what was really was going on was sickening but so so well done and the acting was TOP notch! Loved it! Great review ☺️💛
