How I Read

Bonus Post! Since I have the time this week, I thought I would post this right away! I was nominated to do this tag by Addlepates and book nerds and I am very honoured to be nominated, so thank you! 🙂

How did you get into reading?

My parents are a big influence in that. They filled my bookshelves before I was born, and they read to me all the time. Then when I started to learn to read, I would read with my parents From there I just continued on because it makes me happy. I think that’s what got me into it. There was a time in my life where I wasn’t reading, GASP! I know that’s shocking, but true. But I could never abandon my love of reading, and I always knew I would come back to it.

How has your taste in books changed as you’ve got older?

Well, I am currently re-reading a lot of my childhood novels, and it’s funny how what I thought was a good book then, isn’t really a good book now. Things I thought were great plots, turned into what was I thinking because none of this makes any sense. Now that I know more I find I like more complex things. (and obviously children’s novels aren’t). Plots have to be really good, and characters have to have dynamic.

How often do you buy books?

Not very often. 1) I don’t have the money to read everything I want to, plus what if I don’t like the novel, now I have a novel on my shelf that I will never read again; also once I read a book there is only a small percentage of me actually going to read it again. 2) I have no room for more books. I actually just replaced the desk in my room with a bookshelf and I’m out of room again.
The only time I will buy a book is if I know I will really like it, and the likelihood of me reading it again is very high.

How did you get into book reviewing?

That’s a very good question because I don’t really know! I started 6 years ago now, damn, and I just thought it would be a cool way to get my thoughts out there. At the time I didn’t know anyone else doing it, so I’m not really sure where I got the idea from. I knew a bunch of people who reviewed music, and that’s what I really loved, and thought I was going to do, but things changed and I soon found my calling in book reviews.
It’s funny I just got an email today letting me know I’m in the Top 1% of Goodreads Reviewers. It’s not a big margin but it was cool to get some recognition.

How do you react when you don’t like the ending of a book?

How often do you take a sneak peak at the ending to see if there’s a happy ending?

Never. I don’t even read synopsis’s of books sometimes because I like to be surprised, I don’t want to know what’s going to happen. This often leaves me in the dark about the novel for the first couple chapters, but I’ve come to really enjoy this approach.

Nominations

I nominate whoever wants to do this tag. I’m never any good with who to tag, so please feel feel to do this one. I enjoyed it! 🙂

  1. I don’t buy many books anymore, either. I don’t have the money or the space, so now I try to buy a book only if I think it’s something I will reread or if it’s something I know would be difficult to get through the library (like I’d have to ILL it).
