Review: Emergency Contact

Hi guys… I’m supposed to be packing and going to the airport, but I thought I’d schedule this last post. Today I’m bringing you my review of Mary H.K. Choi’s novel Emergency Contact.

Emergency Contact

Emergency Contact by: Mary H.K. Choi: Penny and Sam meet when they are both at their lowest points. Agreeing to be each other’s emergency contact, the two become friends, really, really good friends, that is until things start to turn and feelings start to change that their friendship is compromised. This novel made the reader feel in all the right places, but it was definitely emotional and relatable. The writing was so good, everything that Choi described just really sat with the reader and made them feel. The plot was not predictable, in the sense that the all the relationships around Penny, the reader didn’t know what was going to happen. Penny was this secluded character, but she was so dynamic and full of life and all the plots that surrounded her, which were pretty much all of them, were just so well written and thought out. The relationships throughout this novel were so spot on and real and raw that it was this fact alone that made it so readable. This novel was really good, from its wide cast of characters who brighten the story, to the plots that just let the reader embrace it all, this was a special coming of age story that brightens hearts.

  1. This does sound like a lovely story! I like that it’s not predictable – it feels like more romance contemporary novels these days are, which would be a shame because the plot looks adorable and the cover is to die for ❤
So glad you liked it, Meghan! And I hope you're having fun in your travels 🙂
