Review: Anger is a Gift

Hello friends, welcome to Monday. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Mark Oshiro’s novel Anger is a Gift.

Anger is a Gift

Anger is a Gift by: Mark Oshiro: Moss meets Javier on the subway and they become instant friends, possibly more. But when new changes happen at Moss’ school, and not for the good, he, Javier and his friends decide to rebel, only this ends in tragedy. Now, Moss has more fuel than ever and he won’t back down until he has his voice heard. This novel was hard-hitting, it was emotional and it was very important. The representation was really well done; it really opened up the reader’s eyes and took a deep dive into racism and privilege. It also really shed a light on violence and police brutality. The story was a rollercoaster of emotions. The reader had a slight feeling what might happen, it just came sooner than anticipated. The way Oshiro was able to captivate their readers and to make them feel so many emotions in such a short amount of time was impressive. The writing was so honest and raw; the characters were so pure and real that the reader could feel these characters as if they were real people. The lessons that the not only the main character, Moss, learns, but his friends learn too on their journey were important life lessons. This was a brutal yet beautiful story that should be read by all.
