This novel was originally published in French and was translated by: Arielle Aaronson

A Boring Wife Settles the Score

A Boring Wife Settles the Score by: Marie-Renée Lavoie: Diane is back and her fiftieth birthday is fast approaching. With her broken marriage behind her and a world of possibilities in front of her, she is off looking for new ways of companionship, in whatever way that might be, family, friends, dating, pets, or all of the above. This novel was just as entertaining as the first one, if not more so. This was a fun sequel on the main character, Diane’s road to gaining her life back. This novel took the first one and strengthened characters and really pushed them in ways that couldn’t have happened in the first novel, but with time they’re evolving into better people. The plot had ups and downs, there were good and bad moments but it was all done so well. The plot was so fast-paced, the reader could have read it in one day, or possibly one sitting, but they wanted to savour this story and all that happened because they didn’t want to leave the world so fast. Even though this dealt with the mundane occurrences of life, Lavoie really put her spin on it by giving us characters who were anything but boring. From the main characters to the secondary characters, they were all so deeply developed and felt incredibly real. These characters were quirky and had their own way about living life and it was fun to read about all the adventures they went on. Not only did this novel speak to family and getting back on your feet, but it really spoke to the power of friendship and the importance they have on one’s life. Lavoie makes the boring, exciting, and that’s what makes her novels so easy to dive into and love.
