Review: The Hike

Hello friends and happy Wednesday! Today I’m going to be reviewing Drew Magary’s novel The Hike.

The Hike

The Hike by: Drew Magary: One-day Ben decides to take a hike the day before a work meeting, only this hike was like no other. Losing his way along this path, he’s on a quest to find the orchestrator, or the “Producer” so he can get home to his family. Along the way he makes some fascinating companions and goes through some interesting tribulations that will stay with him the rest of his life. This novel was definitely a hike. The plot was an adventure that the reader was uncertain where it was going. Anything was possible and that’s what made it exciting. At first the writing felt alright, but the unknown was fun, it wasn’t until the reader really got into it that the writing really shaped and molded the story. The characters were great, their dynamics and then their relations to one another was written really well. The way that each introduction to a new character was formed was done in a way that was engaging and enjoyable to read. The themes and double meanings of everything was intriguing, especially how everything on Ben’s hike meant something and it all related somehow. What truly was the best was the ending; the way Magary pulled it all together the reader did not see it coming. Seeing how it all came together was truly breathtaking; it was such a satisfying ending and it made the whole ride worth it.
