Review: The Invisible Library

Hi friends, happy Monday! I hope you’re all doing well. Today I will be posting my review of the first novel, The Invisible Library in Genevieve Cogman’s series by the same name.

The Invisible Library by: Genevieve Cogman: Irene has grown up in the library, born to librarians, she is now one too. Only this library is no ordinary library, this one collects important books from different realities. Irene and her new partner, Kai, are on a mission to collect a dangerous book, their problem – it’s already been stolen. Now the two have to go on a double mission to ensure they locate this book. This novel had all the elements of a great story and a fun adventure but it just didn’t wow the reader, instead it overwhelmed the reader. The pacing was really slow; for a novel that dealt with so much, it didn’t move very fast and the reader found some chapters just hard to get through. The addition of vampires, werewolves and all other kinds of creatures was great, but it felt like the author added them all at once and just continued to throw things at the reader which in the end confused and was too much to take in. The main plot, where librarians have abilities and they’re on a mission to find a stolen book was good and the reader really enjoyed it. The characters were good, but they weren’t that memorable. This is the first novel in a series and so we’re just scratching the surface to knowing who these characters are. We get a sense of who they are, but the reader would really like to continue to dig deeper. The way this novel ended left the reader curious to find out what will happen next and what the next mission will be. The reader also hopes that the second novel will open up the world building a little more too. For a first novel, it was good, if a little chaotic, but intrigued the reader enough to read a little further.
