Hi friends, happy Monday. I hope you’ve all had a good Christmas (if you celebrate!). Today I’m going to be posting my review of Cassandra Clare’s novel Chain of Iron.

Chain of Iron by: Cassandra Clare: Cordelia is marrying James, her lifelong love, she has her best friend, Lucie, by her side and she’ll soon see her father again, but the marriage is just for show; James is really in love with Grace, or so he thinks. Meanwhile Lucie and Grace have been doing some conspiring of their own and to top it all off there’s a serial Shadowhunter on the loose. This novel had a little bit of everything; there was mystery, suspense, romance, betrayals, murders, action, adventure and just so much more. This novel was jam-packed with so much that the reader was never bored; there was always something happening which is what really kept them going. The plots were so action-packed and so layered that the stories were complex and detailed. The one thing that kept taking the reader out of the story was the fact that there were just so many characters to keep track of and who was related to who, what character meant to another character. That took a lot of work to keep in the story; after a while things got easier, but still a struggle. The characters themselves were well crafted and memorable; some felt more developed than others, but with each passing novel in the Shadowhunter world we get to learn a little bit more about different characters, which is always a joy. We got to see characters that we’ve come to love over the years and it’s always so good to see them and have them as part of the story somehow. Any time Magnus makes an appearance you know it’s going to be a good time; this time was no exception. This novel was long, and probably didn’t need to be as long as it was but the reader is still excited to see where these stories are going to go. Clare left everything on a cliff hanger that just forces us to pick up the next book to find out what happens next.
