Movie Review: The Lion King (2019)

Hello, and happy Friday friends! Today I’m going to be posting my thoughts of the new live action, The Lion King.

The Lion King

The Lion King: Simba knows he’s next in line to be king after his father, but his greedy uncle Scar has other plans. Tricking Simba into bad situations to prove his worth, tragedy strikes and Simba is left to flee his kingdom, leaving Scar in charge. This only leads to years of destruction, which gives Simba the chance to finally reclaim his title as king. As much as this film brings back all the nostalgia for the 1994 version, there were moments throughout the film that really had the viewer wondering if there was a point to rebooting and creating a live action for this film. Sure, the CGI animals were hella cute, and they were done so well because they were truly lifelike, but when you have scenes that were word-for-word from the animated movie it felt a little cheap, and the some of the scenes that were added didn’t really do a whole lot for the plot. Even the scenes that held the most emotion didn’t really get captured and just didn’t feel as emotional as the animated film. Now, without comparing it to its predecessor this film was two hours long and did it really need to be? This was paced really slowly that the viewer had a hard time staying focused. Because of that, it really made the movie drag on making it unenjoyable. The cast did a fantastic job, the songs were great, and the slightly altered scenes with Timon and Pumbaa were hilarious, which brought a lot of life to the movie, but everything else just fell flat. Overall, this was good to watch once to see how it was done, but otherwise not really worth the re-watch.

  2. YES! Thank you! You watched it so I wouldn’t need to 😀
Ahah, I was going to go see it at the cinema, but then we went to watch Fast and Furiouis 8? 9? I don’t know, I lost count. Which wasn’t Fast and Furious at all, more like a new blockbuster featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. But it was still a lot of fun.

I was a little bit aprehensive to watch the Lion King, as I didn’t think it could live up to the original cartoon ❤

    1. Oh, haha!
Sounds like the new Hobbs and Shaw movie which is a spin off to the Fast & furious movies. I’m glad to hear it was a lot of fun, I still ned to watch Fast 8 😛
To me, I don’t think it did. Sure it was cute, but ehhhh I won’t be watching it again!

  3. I just saw this and I thought it was okay … I prefer the 1994 version better. The voice acting wasn’t bad … but there’s just something about the original cast that can’t be beat in my opinion. And I didn’t like how they sang the songs so … pretty like? I missed the dramatic portions like in the cartoon.

I’m glad people seemed to enjoy it, but I’d rather just watch the original ha-ha!

    1. I agree with you, I prefer the 1994 version too.
They tried really hard when they sang the songs, I get what you mean.
I just felt like it dragged on. The cartoon didn’t feel like it dragged as much.
Oh, I agree I’ll be watching the original if I ever watch the Lion King again!

      1. I’m glad you get what I mean … I felt so silly complaining about that but it just felt so … over the top lol. And YES! I felt the same! My friend hasn’t seen the original so I’m making him watch it so he understands my love of the original more than this one lol!

Also … Jeremy Irons as Scar in the cartoon is just unbeatable in my opinion.
