Hi friends, happy Wednesday, I hope you’re all doing well! Today I’m going to be posting my review of Jackson Pearce & Maggie Stiefvater’s third novel in their Pip Barlett trilogy, Pip Bartlett’s Guide to Sea Monsters.

Pip Bartlett’s Guide to Sea Monsters by: Jackson Pearce & Maggie Stiefvater: Pip joins her best friend, Tomas and his family to Port Candor for some fun by the pier. The place is crawling with sea creatures, giving Pip and Tomas lots to explore. But when one of those creatures keeps causing destruction the two are on the case. This is the third novel in this series and it kinda flopped. The story is short, but within the less than 200 pages, it felt like nothing really happened. The plot was slow to start, then once things started to get going, they didn’t really go anywhere. This felt really boring after the previous novel. This story felt like a tacked on bonus story instead of a novel. The reader did like the drawings throughout because it gave a great visual of all the creatures. The characters were alright, but they didn’t really develop much. The reader could see that the authors were trying to make the one main character, Tomas, a better, braver character, but they kept telling and not showing and it didn’t really feel believable. Because the novel was so short new characters that were introduced felt very two dimensional and generic. Some added more to the story than others, but they just felt very flat. Overall, this novel had good moments, but it just fell flat and lacked true substance.
