Review: The Suffering

Hi friends, I hope your Monday has started off well! Today I’m going to be posting my review of Rin Chupeco’s final novel in The Girl from the Well duology, The Suffering.

You can read my review of the first novel: The Girl from the Well

The Suffering

The Suffering by: Rin Chupeco: After Okiku changed Tark’s life, she’s about to change it again. She and Tark set out to destroy the evil and when Tark returns back to Japan for his yearly visit things take a turn. The darkness pulls them deep into Aokigahara, which is known as Japan’s suicide forest, and lines get blurred and things can’t be taken back. This sequel was just as good as the first novel. This didn’t start off the greatest; it started with high school bullying, but slowly the plot took a drastic turn and really picked up, leaving the reader on the edge of their seat. The creepy vibes were definitely all out and Chupeco pulled no punches as the plot got darker and darker. The characters were so well developed and the reader didn’t want to say goodbye to them. The relationship between Okiku and Tark was so precious, which might sound strange, but the way the two of them cared for one another and the ups and downs they go through, it’s truly a beautiful friendship. Then there are the secondary characters, some were a fun addition to the story, while others were characters the reader was happy to see again. Overall, this duology was terrifying, and creepy, but also filled with love and great friendship.
