Bony’s 2019 Bookish & Personal New Years Resolutions & Goals

Hi guys and Happy New Year! πŸŽ‰Β Here we are in a brand new year; it’s the time to leave 2018 behind and start the new year on the right foot. It’s funny in the 4 years I’ve had this blog, I’ve never done a post like this. New year, new me, you know what I’m sayin’? 😏
Anyways, today I’m here to bring you what I want to *try* and accomplish this year!

I’ve actually been reading a lot of other people’s goals, which is really what fuelled me to start my own (that and the fact that I started doing monthly goals on Twitter… in which I kinda only did for two months πŸ˜—) but I really like writing things down because in doing so, I actually did what I said I wanted to do… it’s like tricking yourself, so maybe this will work!

Bookish (Reading & Blogging) Goals

Yes, you read that right. As someone with a book blog doesn’t that sound silly? Well probably, but if the end of 2018 is any outlook for what 2019 is going to be I’m going to burn out in a few short weeks. I am a proofreader, which means IΒ readΒ all day long. Sounds like the perfect life, right? Not really, when you’re reading things that don’t fascinate you (and I’m sorry, but food labelling is probably the driest form of reading [except when there are funny spelling mistakes!]) then it becomes very tiresome and a chore. Then you go home and you really don’t feel like reading another word, that’s been my reality lately, so this is why I want to read less, to give my poor eyes a rest, to do more of the things I love, and in general do more!

I’m planning to set my Goodreads challenge to 90 books (last year it was 93) as I read 121 books last year so I think this is doable.

Blog More.

I know, this contradicts my first resolution, but I want to, not so much post more, but interact more. At the end of 2018 I started following a bunch of new (to me) followers and I’ve really enjoyed reading all the bookish posts… even if some of them, where you guys organized your reading challenges for this year gave me heartburn just reading it all. πŸ˜‚Β I love the effort people put into it all. I live vicariously through you all, because lord knows I couldn’t do it!

Also under this umbrella (since it’s such a broad topic) I’m trying to make my posts more personal. I’m trying to open up more… meaning ramble more… because that’s what I’m good at. πŸ˜…Β I tried it a few years ago, clearly I failed at it because I think my posts are very bland.

Soc-Meds More.

I gotta get on the soc-meds! I feel like I’m not cool enough to call social media ‘soc-meds’, but what do I know? πŸ€”Β Another thing I want to try to be better at is using my Twitter/Instagram for more of my bookish adventures. I recently did a clean up of both, but now I’m looking for new/more bookish blogs/people to follow!
Hit me up on Twitter or Instagram…Β  or both 😊 or leave your handles in the comments!

Personal Goals

Stress Less.

Of course this is easier said than done! I’m trying to go into 2019 without freaking out over a little tiny stupid thing. This is going to be a really hard challenge for me, but I’m going to try.

Chill More.

By chilling I of course mean just sitting around doing nothing of course. πŸ˜‚Β No by chill I mean, do more of the things I love. πŸ’•Β My list includes:

  1. Baking πŸͺ🍰
  2. Knitting. In 2018 that was something I learned to do; I never thought I could teach myself, but here I am knitting away!
  3. Catch up on all the TV shows I said I was going to watch… yeah big challenge, but we shall see!
  4. Continue learning French and German on Duolingo. I’m a little obsessed with the app, but I find it fun to learn & it’s free!
  5. Travel. I want to travel more. I already have a big UK trip planned for June, but we’ll see where the year takes me. 🌍

Be Better.

Not only personality wise do I want to be better, but I want to do better for my body. I always have these big ideas of how to stay active, but do I do it? Nope.
You will never catch me inside a gym though because I really can’t be bothered and the stories I hear and the pictures I see on Twitter (like WHO IS TAKING PICTURES OF PEOPLE AT THE GYM?!?! that makes me so mad 😑) So I bought a bike two years ago and when Winter ends I plan to get back out there! I really want to buy a treadmill… but I don’t have room for it. My ideal setting would be to walk slowly on the treadmill while reading… one day.

I also want to try to eat a bit better… I already eat pretty healthy, but I’m trying to get all four food groups at least once a day if not twice. I’m also really big on water; I’m trying to consume more water… even though I drink probably just over a litre now, I want to try to drink more. πŸ’§Β I’m a high achiever.

I also want to try and do better for the environment in any way I can. ♻️

Those are just some of the bigger goals I’m looking at this year. What are your 2019 goals? Happy 2019! 😊

  1. I think you and I are on the same wavelength with goals for 2019. I definitely want to blog more and use social media more than I do. Good luck with everything! 😘

  2. So many goals of yours that I would love to adopt as well 😁 I haven’t made a list yet, I tend to get overexcited and grab more than I can chew πŸ˜… yay for fresh starts! Good luck with your goals πŸ˜™

    1. I understand! I tend to do that too, that’s why I tried to make them broad so they could be more achievable!

  3. Love your goals! I learned how to knit before but stopped. Need to find time haha That’s awesome that you read 121 books. I read 112, 3 away from my goal. I’m going back to challenging myself with just 100 because it’s manageable. I just followed you on Instagram! Glad you are there 😊 Best of luck on your 2019 goals Meghan!!

112 is still a lot of books! Congrats! 100 is manageable and I wish you luck on your challenge!

  4. Good luck with your goals!
Stressing less and chilling more is great! I’m working on those too!

Reading is great, as long as it doesn’t get overwhelming, so if you feel like reading less, you should do that πŸ™‚

  5. These are some great resolutions for 2019 Meghan. πŸ™‚ I get where you’re coming from with the ‘read less’ one too, my GR Reading Challenge goal has gone down from 125 last year to only 75 this year because I put too much pressure on myself to read more and more and more and it took all the fun out of it (not ideal)
Also ‘stress less’ should be one of my goals for this year too, but I feel like I just work better under very high levels of stress. It’s the way I am. πŸ™‚
Great post, and good luck for 2019. ❀

    1. Thank you Beth!
Oh, I get it! Good luck with your reading challenge!
I’m just trying not to let silly things get to me and stress myself out for no reason!
      Thanks! πŸ™‚

  6. This year was the first time I have done a post about my resolutions as well! πŸ˜€ (Mostly because it’s the first time I’m making resolutions in the first place.)
You have some amazing goals set for yourself! Good luck with all of them and I hope that 2019 will be an amazing year for you. ❀
